Question Details

Question: I am currently residing in Al-Khobar KSA. I have performed a number of Umrahs over the years. I am going to peform my first Hajj this year In Sha Allah. I am planning to leave for Makkah on 7th Dhul Hijjah. Could you please help me decide which type of Hajj should I perform Tamattu or Ifraad? which one applies for me?
If you have done Umrah before, since you are leaving for Makkah on the 7th of Dhul Hijjah, you may opt for Ifrad.
If you choose Ifrad, upon your arrival in Makkah, you should perform Tawaf al-Qudoom. You may opt to do Sa’y immediately; otherwise, you may postpone it until you return for Tawaf al-Ifadah.
After Tawaf, you are to remain in Ihram. And on the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, you should proceed to Mina and spend the night there.
On the 9th, you should proceed to Arafah to perform the ritual of standing. After sunset, you should proceed from Arafah, and spend the night in Muzdalifah where you should combine Maghrib and Isha. If you are too old or sickly, you can spend an hour or so and then return to Mina and pelt the Jamrah before sunrise.
If you are able bodied, then you should leave Muzdalifah after Fajr and offer supplications at the Mash’ar al-Haram (the Masjid). You should then leave for Mina and pelt the Jamrah after sunrise.
After having done the pelting, you should shave or cut your hair; you are now free to change into your ordinary clothes.
Now you have achieved the first release from Ihram; therefore, all of the restrictions of ihram - except sexual intercourse with your spouse - are lifted now.
The final release from ihram will happen when you perform Tawaf al-Ifadah. If you had done Sa’y earlier, you don’t need to do another one now. Otherwise, you should do the Sa’y after Tawaf al-Ifadah. You should return to Mina for staying another two days and perform pelting (if you are in a hurry); otherwise, you should stay another day and do the pelting.
Once you have completed the rituals of pelting, you should return to Makkah and perform Tawaf al-Wada before leaving Makkah.
There is no sacrifice required in the case of Ifrad.
I pray to Allah to grant you a most virtuous hajj.
