Question: my name is silvia.is it a halal name?or is it appropriate according to islam?
Answer:

This is what I found in Wikipedia:

"Silvia is an Italian female given name of Latin origin, with English-language cognateSylvia. The name originates from the Latin word for forest Silva and its meaning is spirit of the wood. The mythological god of the forest was associated with the figure of Silvanus."

If this is correct, then as a Muslimah you should consider changing it.

Belief in Oneness of God is the corner stone of Islam. Belief in a mythical god of the forest is antithetical to the Islamic concept of Oneness of God.

We read in the Qur'an:

SAY: "He is the One God: - "God the Eternal, the Uncaused Cause of All Being. "He begets not, and neither is He begotten; and there is nothing that could be compared with Him.” (Qur’an: 112: 1-4).

Therefore, the concept of God indwelling in His creation is contrary to the central belief of Islam.

Therefore, I would advise to choose a name that is free of such pagan associations.

You may choose something like Safiyyah, Sameehah, Shareefah, or Maryam, etc.
