Question: Is it permissible to give online education classes where I will have to lie about my location? The person wants me to say I am based in Canada if anyone asks while I am not.
Lying is one of the most cardinal sins in Islam. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Practice truthfulness for truthfulness leads to virtue and virtue leads to Paradise; and beware of lying for lying leads to sins and sins lead to hellfire. A person continues to lie until his name is written as a liar in the register of Allah ." (Reported by Muslim).
Therefore, you are not allowed to lie about your location; if you do this to make money, your income is not lawful. The Prophet (peace be upon him) tells us that Allah does not answer the prayers of those who earn their living through unlawful or unethical ways.
Therefore, I would urge you never resort to lies no matter how profitable it may appear to you. There is no blessing in such income. A penny earned ethically and lawfully is more blessed than a million dollar earned through cheating and deception.
In conclusion: You are not allowed to lie about your location to run classes and attract students.
I pray to Allah to cleanse our hearts from disbelief, our actions from ostentation and our tongues from lying.
