Question:
Dear sheikh can you please explain to me the penalty for apostasy in an Islamic state? Can i also have your own view on apostasy? I mean death for renouncing Islam sounds like a really harsh punishment. Muslims shouldn't kill an apostate. In my opinion apostasy is between the apostate and Allah so other muslims should leave it be. And anyway it's not like the apostate will get off scott free because Allah will take certainly punish him quite severely on the Last Day.

Assalamu Alaykum I wish we could clone you! I love you sheikh. Mashallah your knowledge and ability to combine it with modern times is very refreshing. May Allah bless you. My question is re the hadith that says "whoever changes his religion kill him". Is this authentic and if yes what context was the statement made?
